A few years ago there was a real effort to cancel this song — which only made us like it all the more. As if there aren’t enough troubling things to worry about in today’s modern life, some people apparently felt the need to search through history and find more reasons to be offended. We think that’s silly. Instead of judging old songs by current standards (which, let’s be honest, would result in a lot of great songs being banned if we really went down that path), how about we simply enjoy it as was intended?
Baby It’s Cold Outside is a charming and pretty benign song about a man trying to persuade a lady to stay with him on a cold winter’s night. We present to you here our favorite version, recorded in 1949, sung by Johnny Mercer and Margaret Whiting.
From all of us here at Coda Magazine, we wish you all the best for this 2025 holiday season. Merry Christmas!
