Where Does The Time Go? (Barry Manilow, 1994)

Recently I completed a certain chapter of my life. While I looked forward to the change and am happy about it, it left me feeling bittersweet too. Before I knew it, this song I had heard once long ago crept into my mind, and became stuck. It happens to describe perfectly my feelings at this moment. It’s amazing how the mind makes connections like that.

In 1994, Barry Manilow released the album Singin’ With The Big Bands, in which he covers several standards from the 1940’s, backed by the bands from that time. He did however write two original songs — one to open the album, and one to close it. The latter song is “Where Does The Time Go?”, composed by Barry Manilow, with lyrics by Bruce Sussman. I hope you enjoy it.

Oh what a time
What a warm and wonderous time
So sweet a shining moment in the sun
Oh what a time
Was there ever such a time
Then suddenly it’s done
The moment passes

Where, where does the time go
Must we let it end
Where, where does the time go
Gone to soon my friend
And where, where go the echoes
Of our laughter ringing the air
Oh wherever the time goes
I will see you there

Must we let it end

And where, where go the echoes
Of our laughter ringing the air
Oh where ever the time goes
I will see you there
I will see you there
